Tambucci R, Angelino G, De Angelis P, Torroni F, Caldaro T, Balassone V et al (2017) Anastomotic strictures after esophageal atresia repair: incidence, investigations, and management, including treatment of refractory and recurrent strictures. The result of this single center analysis found no association between thoracoscopic approach, low birthweight, low gestational age, and significant co-morbidities with stricture formation after EA/TEF repair.Īlmog A, Zani A (2021) Postoperative complications and long-term outcomes of tracheoesophageal fistula repair. Analyzing the secondary outcomes also found no statistically significant difference between weight, gestational age, and significant co-morbidities. ![]() There was no statistically significant difference with regard to thoracoscopic procedure, and intra-operative and post-operative complications. Thirty-nine patients were eligible for inclusion in the study, of which 17 had strictures (22 did not have strictures). Chi-square test was performed using SPSS. A stricture was defined as requiring a dilatation within the first year after repair. Demographic, treatment, and outcome data were collected. Patients who died prior to discharge were excluded. Retrospective reviews of all patients with an EA/TEF repair at our center between January 2015 and November 2021 were included. The aim of the present study is to identify if associated factors, such as thoracoscopic approach, intra-operative and post-operative complications, low birthweight (< 2.5 kg), gestational age (< 32 weeks), or significant co-morbidities affect stricture rate. Some studies have identified thoracoscopic and long gap EA/TEF as risk factors for strictures. Esophageal strictures are a common morbidity after esophageal atresia and trachea–esophageal fistula (EA/TEF) repairs. ![]()
